GENERAL RULES

  1. A limit of one baby beef steer per exhibitor

  2. Market steers must be born on or after January 1, 2022.

  3. Market steers must be owned by exhibitors by November 1, 2022.

  4. Market steers must be dehorned and castrated.

  5. Market steers must weigh between 1000 and 1450 pounds. Any market steer weighing less than 1000 pounds or more than 1450 pounds will not be eligible for Grand or Reserve. In addition, market steers weighing over 1450 pounds will have a selling weight of 1450 pounds.

  6. Market steers will be divided into weight classes. Market steers will be assigned to these weight divisions by a special committee after the market steers have been weighed in. This committee includes representatives from the Vo-Ag Department, WVU Cooperative Extension Service, Wirt County Youth Livestock Association and the Wirt County Fair Association.

  7. A limit of one feeder heifer and one feeder steer per exhibitor.

  8. Replacement heifers and feeder steers must be born between January 1, 2023 and March 15, 2023.

  9. Replacement heifers and feeder steers must be owned by exhibitors by June 1, 2023.

  10. Replacement heifers and feeder steers must weigh between 300 and 650 pounds. Any feeder heifers or feeder steers weighing less than 300 pounds or more than 650 pounds will not be eligible for Grand or Reserve. In addition, any feeder heifers or feeder steers weighing over 650 pounds will have a selling weight of 650 pounds.

  11. All animals must be dehorned.

  12. All animals must comply with health regulations of the West Virginia Department of Agriculture. Click here for a printable version.

  13. NO ANIMALS MAY ENTER THE BARN BEFORE THE DESIGNATED WEIGH IN TIME.

  14. Feeder steer and replacement heifers will be divided into weight classes. They will be assigned to these weight divisions by a special committee after weigh in.
