September 9, 1992 was a great day for country music and
its fans everywhere. On that day in Martin, Kentucky Tyler Stephens was
born. Martin lays nestled in the beautiful mountains of Southeastern
Kentucky. Only minutes from the well known Country Music Highway, US 23. This area, known for turning out country music greats such as Keith Whitley, Billy Ray Cyrus, his daughter Miley Cyrus, Loretta Lynn, Patty Loveless, and Ricky Skaggs (to name a few) has held true to form and has produced yet another great artist whose name will remain synonymous with country music for years to come. Tyler was introduced to music at a very early age and set his sights on a successful musical career and has never looked back. At only 19 years old, with countless performances behind him and two completed albums; Tyler landed a recording deal with the independent record label: Big Appal Music. Holding true to his heritage he is already well known for his straight from the heart traditional country vocal. Hauntingly reminiscence of his idol, The Legendary Keith Whitley. The Country Swingers is a band that has been performing in and around the area since the late 70's. Before the band, Becky Cline Smith was a regular performer with the Capitol City Jamboree on WCHS Radio in Charleston, WV. Kenny Smith was a member of the original Country Swingers Band in the Goshen/Elkhart, Indiana area. When Kenny moved back to Roane County, he and Becky met, married, and have been performing ever since. The Swingers play a variety of music to include classic and new country, as well as old rock and roll, performing songs by artists such as Merle Haggard, Trace Adkins, George Jones, Patty Loveless, Emmylou Harris, Martina McBride, CCR, and Chuck Berry. Member of the band include Kenny Smith on lead guitar, lead and harmony vocals, Becky Smith on rhythm guitar, lead and harmony vocals, Tom Westfall on bass, and Casey Smith, son of Kenny and Becky, on drums. |
